Illuminated ceilings and lighting fixtures at the Renault | Dacia dealership

Task No. 1

In the dealership, two areas intended for the delivery of new vehicles to customers were designed. According to the architects’ concept, two illuminated stretch ceilings were integrated into these areas, recessed into black plaster niches. Visually, this solution creates the effect of enormous light fixtures with impressive dimensions of 5500 mm x 3500 mm. The crucial task was to maintain uniform lighting throughout the entire area and ensure remote precise control of light intensity. The dimming function is conveniently managed via a remote control.

Lighting requirements established by the architects for these areas:

• Color temperature of 4000 K, IP44 or higher protection rating, and a CRI of 85+.
• At least 800 lx at a height of 150 cm from the floor.
• Volume (thickness) of the luminaire/ceiling not exceeding 200 mm.
• Uniform dimming controlled remotely.

The biggest technical challenge was maintaining a lighting level of at least 800 lx at a height of 150 cm. Since the ceilings were installed at a considerable height, we had to review and adjust the lighting project several times. We performed numerous corrections and on-site tests until we obtained the perfect result. Finally, the amount of light was distributed in a range from 850 lx to 1050 lx, where the minimum corresponds to the edges of the room and the maximum to its center. Below, we present the detailed lighting calculations.

Task No. 2

During the execution of the first stage, an additional need arose from the client: the manufacture of 24 custom luminaires with dimensions of 1000 mm x 1000 mm. After the successful installation of the illuminated ceilings, the client was fully satisfied and, still during the dealership’s fitting-out process, entrusted us with this new order. The first phase consisted of creating a prototype luminaire, which we had to manufacture in a record time of 2 days.

Technical requirements for the custom luminaires:

• Exact dimensions: 1000 mm x 1000 mm x 120 mm.
• Perimeter profiles in matte black color (RAL 9005).
• Zone dimming by groups via remote control (17 groups in total).
• Color temperature of 4000K, IP44+ protection, and CRI 85+.
• Minimum power of 150W per unit.
• Suspension system using 4 steel cables (adjustable up to 200 cm).

After validation of the prototype luminaire, we faced a major logistical challenge: we had to produce the remaining 23 units in just 10 days. Thanks to our production capacity, we completed manufacturing in 8 days, using the remaining 2 days to configure and synchronize the group dimming of the luminaires directly at the dealership’s premises.
